Getting married at the Manoir de la Jahotière: a videographer's view

A wedding at the Manoir de la Jahotière, in Abbaretz, Loire-Atlantique.
Marion & Jean-François's wedding at the Manoir de la Jahotière. Still from their film.

The estate describes itself as a magical place in the middle of nowhere, and for once the phrase is not an exaggeration. A hundred hectares, a former industrial then agricultural site turned manor hotel, and a park that absorbs every sound from the outside world.

The estate

  • Location - La Jahotière, off the D2, Abbaretz (44170), Loire-Atlantique
  • Size - a 100-hectare estate, a former industrial then agricultural site, now revived
  • Setting - a park that forms a green setting around the manor
  • Accommodation - a three-star hotel with a restaurant, rooms overlooking the park
  • Uses - weddings, private and corporate events

What the place brings to the image

A hundred hectares is not a figure for the brochure: it is what lets a couple's session move through three or four completely different settings without ever getting in a car, and lets a drone take off without disturbing anyone. Most reception venues fit inside a garden; here, you can walk a long way.

The other asset is silence. A remote estate with no road nearby radically changes sound capture: the voices of an outdoor ceremony, the speeches, the laughter all record without background noise to fix in the edit. It is a comfort I mostly notice when it is missing.

Finally, the site's industrial past leaves textures that classic châteaux do not have: raw stone, metal, agricultural volumes. On film, that gives an immediately recognisable visual identity, far from interchangeable façades.

Sleeping on site changes the day

Because the manor is a hotel, part of the guest list sleeps at the foot of the party. Nobody watches the clock for the drive home, the evening stretches out, and the most sincere moments, the ones that arrive once the tension drops, have time to exist. They are almost always the best shots in a wedding film.
