Getting married at the Domaine du Haras de la Chaîne: a videographer's view
This is an estate I know well, and one of the first I recommend to couples marrying in Mayenne or around Fougères: a working stud farm turned reception venue, with the space and quiet that implies. Here is what a videographer takes away from it after a full day of filming.
The estate
- Location - Saint-Pierre-des-Landes, Mayenne (53), about fifteen minutes from Fougères, close to Ernée and Laval
- Grounds - around ten hectares, built around a thoroughbred breeding operation
- Two halls - L'Écurie, for receptions of up to roughly 140 guests; L'Hippodrome, for larger receptions of up to roughly 280
- Accommodation - beds on site, the number depending on the hall you book
- Rental - the estate is normally let from Friday to Monday, which lets the weekend breathe
- Setting - stone buildings, mature trees, meadows and horses in the park
Information gathered from the venue's public pages at the time of writing. Please confirm capacities and current terms directly with them.
What the place brings to the image
The stone house comes first: a plain façade, pale shutters, and above all very tall trees that frame it naturally. It is the kind of setting where you can shoot straight into the light through the leaves with no artifice at all. Late in the afternoon, the shadows across the lawn draw perspectives no lighting kit can reproduce.
The second asset is rarer: the horses. A working stud farm means meadows, fences and moving shapes in the background. It gives the film images you will not find at any other venue in the area, and an identity you recognise instantly.
Then there is space. Ten hectares means a couple's session is not confined to a corner of a garden: you walk, you change the backdrop, the drone climbs without disturbing anyone. And the two halls give you a covered plan B, which is never a luxury in Mayenne.
A weekend from Friday to Monday
That rental detail changes the rhythm of the day, and therefore the film. With the estate available from Friday, decorations go up the night before, Saturday morning preparations happen without a race against the clock, and the evening stretches out with nobody thinking about clearing up. The truest moments to film almost always arrive in those unhurried stretches.
A wedding I filmed there
Laura & Romain were married there on 11 July 2026. The full account of their day is here: their wedding at the Domaine du Haras de la Chaîne.
This venue is one of the Mayenne wedding venues I document. You can also read the Google reviews left by the couples I have worked with.
