Marion & Romain's wedding film in Le Bourgneuf-la-Forêt
On 13 June 2026, Marion and Romain were married in Le Bourgneuf-la-Forêt, Mayenne. No château, no estate to hire: a ceremony under a flower arch, string lights, and a room decorated by hand. It is perhaps the kind of wedding I most enjoy filming.
A wedding without a château
Cinematic wedding films are readily associated with grand estates. That is an optical illusion: what makes a beautiful film is not the façade behind the couple, it is what passes between them. In Le Bourgneuf-la-Forêt the setting was made of fabric, flowers and lights, and the film is no less powerful for it.
A humbler venue simply asks for a different method. You work more in close-ups, you take care of backgrounds rather than displaying them, and you lean heavily on the light sources that are already there: string lights, candles, the backlight from a window. The result is often more intimate than a large park.
An indoor ceremony: it all rests on sound
A ceremony under an arch, indoors or under cover, poses a challenge few couples anticipate: acoustics. A room reverberates, guests are close, and the slightest scraping chair jumps to the foreground. So the exchanges are captured up close, never from the back of the room.
That is what decides a film's worth ten years later. People rarely remember a camera move; they remember a voice breaking mid-sentence.
